About Dr. Nuelle

Dr. Nuelle is a native of central Missouri and has lived most of his life in the area. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society. He then moved to Chicago, where he earned his medical doctorate and graduated with honors from the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He then came back to mid-Missouri to complete his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Missouri and was fortunate to receive many awards, including the Allen Menard leadership award, the Barry J. Gainor resident award in education and the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute outstanding orthopaedic resident award.

During his residency Dr. Nuelle gained the skills necessary to treat a vast array of orthopaedic injuries and patients of any age, but he found a special interest in taking care of athletic injuries. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine and during his fellowship helped take care of many of the men and women athletes for the Mizzou sports teams.  Dr. Nuelle was in practice in Missouri for two years, then moved to Texas, where his wife, Julia, was stationed in the Air Force as the Chief of Hand Surgery at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. After his wife’s commitment was completed, Dr. Nuelle then came back home to Mizzou to re-join the faculty at the University of Missouri and serve as a Team Physician for Mizzou Athletics. Dr. Nuelle is the Associate Head Team Physician and the primary surgeon for the Mizzou football, soccer, softball, tennis and swimming teams.

Dr. Nuelle is very active in research and is an author or co-author of numerous peer reviewed publications, journal articles and textbook chapters. His current research focuses on improving cartilage and joint restoration and knee ligament reconstruction techniques. He is an Associate Editor for the Arthroscopy Journal and is a member of the Missouri State Orthopaedic Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).

Dr. Nuelle and his wife have been blessed with two children. Outside of the hospital they enjoy traveling and spending time with their family and friends.
